We have a number of students for whom English is a second language.
These students receive lessons in English as a Foreign Language
from a team of supportive and friendly specialist teachers with
the aim of developing the four language skills of reading, writing,
listening and speaking. An adaptable and flexible approach to teaching
offer support to meet the changing needs of individual pupils and
the children are encouraged to fully integrate into school life. |
| Academic
progress is monitored on a regular basis and recognised public
examinations are taken at appropriate times throughout the year.
Children up to Year 11 are entered for the JET/SET suite of exams,
which formally assess levels of ability. The papers are set and
marked by the Assessment and Qualifications Alliance (AQA).
Sixth Form students are entered for the General IELTS (International
English Language Testing) exam at the end of the Lower Sixth. Entry
into Upper Sixth is subject to an IELTS grade of at least 5.5.

IELTS
is jointly managed by the University of Cambridge, British Council
and IDP Education Australia. IELTS conforms to the highest international
standards of language assessment and is recognised by universities
and employers in many countries, including the UK, the USA, Australia,
Canada and New Zealand.
The Academic IELTS is taken at the end of the Upper Sixth. Admission
to undergraduate and postgraduate courses is often reliant on the
results of this exam. |
