'The aim of the War Memorial Committee is to establish a collection of books worthy of the School, in a room worthy to commemorate those who served in the war.'
(The Plymothian, July 1948)

Honouring these original intentions, the library is tradition brought
up-to-date and looks to the future in terms of supporting the curriculum
and all areas of school life. The library is a light and spacious
area where pupils have internet access as well as a range of books,
cd-roms, newspapers, periodicals and other reference facilities. The
library is open before school, during break and lunchtime and until
the start of supervised prep at 4.10 pm. During lesson time it is
used by classes or groups researching specific areas; for sixth form
private study and as a place where pupils who need extra time to support
core subjects can work. During prep time it is available for research.
During the course of the year, events such as the Poetry and English
Speaking competitions are also held in the library. The atmosphere
is normally a quiet hum of work, research or reading. |
